A Home Even Oscar Would Love!

For Art today, the girls decided to paint the trash can. The best way to hide the dirt!

What do ya' think, too pretty for Oscar's taste?

Here's what else we have done today:
Made banana pudding

I caught her licking the bowl-she said "I'm innocent!!"
We also finished up with lizards and other reptiles and worked on math. Later today, she gets a sewing lesson.

Field Trip to Jones Gap State Park

Yesterday I took the girls on a little field trip to the mountains. Luckily, we are very close-45 minutes. It was cooold but we had so much fun. Maddie found some great things to try to identify. Including, a tree that looks very interesting!

New Day, New Year, New School

Frightening and exciting! Today is the first day of homeschooling! I plan on using this blog to keep records and track our journey down the wonderful path that is life!

Maddie woke up totally happy about school today. I'm having to work with her a bit to deschool her-she wants me to decide things for her, tell her exactly what to do, and so on. She gets a gleam of wonder in her eyes when I tell her it's her choice! For instance, she asked me what I want her to read-I told her that she was the one reading, so she should decide! Or, what kind of art project she should work on-go into the craft cabinet and do what you want!

Today she has:

  • Wrote in her journal
  • Wrote to her pen pal
  • dissected a frog-not a live frog but a cool dissection kit she got for christmas. She learned several science words-and learned more about the ones she already knew. For instance, she learned that metamorphosis is from the Greek words meta and morphe. And, that amphibian is from Greek amphi and bios. I think she is going to get into etymologies soon. It seems to fascinate her. After we learned about the different organs and life cycle of the frog, she pretended it needed emergency heart surgery, so she played doctor on it for a while.
  • She read a little from "The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks" and wrote a bit about it
  • Right now she is painting.
  • After a nice break she wants to work on some math, but we might put that off until tomorrow.
Later....
  • She also played her guitar for about 10 minutes
  • The rest of the day was spent playing with her sister and watching a movie
I have a really good feeling about this.....
